In the early twentieth century, four brothers from Terre Haute, Indiana created a boat motor. They were trying to power their boat to a favorite place they often frequented, a walnut rich expanse on a beautiful river. From that one simple need, a yearning based on desire for something they loved, an boat motor company was born. Johnson outboard motors were the result.
With that same thinking in mind, Lou, Harry, Julius and Clarence also created a plane engine which resulted in a monoplane flight in the early years of American aviation. These brother's intelligence and business savvy complemented each other and is often referred to as the key to the current company's foundation.
The company produced the first heavy outboard motor beginning in 1926. In an effort to place their product in easy reach of a vast testing environment, the brothers also created the industry's finest example of a manufacturing plant for these products on the river they loved.
Companies change hands over the span of almost one hundred years and this one is no different. Its current owner, a Canadian business, is a large manufacturer of recreational watercraft.
The company also has a long lasting name to live up to when it brands its products with the Johnson name. Proof can be seen in the company's current growth and success during even difficult times in its and nation's history. Competitors are desperately trying to copy their model of success.
The Johnson 25 horse power and 9.9 are are among the most popular and best performing models on the market today. Other than those two engines, the company also offers a wide variety of others.
Long ago four brothers created an engine based on a simple need to gratify themselves with small gifts of nature. Today that company and the name of the brothers live on. Testimony that when something is done, even one for simple reasons, it is in the best interest to do the best job possible.
